Research from Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) will be featured on “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor” on BBC Two on Thursday, 8 September 2016 at 8pm.

On the show Michael Mosley reveals a new discovery that could help us all improve our eyesight.

The programme will showcase some of the main results from Nutrition Research Centre Ireland’s recently completed European Research Council-funded CREST trials, which investigated the impact of nutritional supplementation for vision in humans.

Prof John Nolan, Principal Investigator for the CREST study and founder of the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland, said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase our work, and offers international exposure for the research team and members of the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland, at the School of Health Science, WIT.”

“All of us involved in this research are tremendously excited about the outcome – not only from a scientific perspective but also because of the significant benefits it will have for a wide range of people,” he added. The School of Health Sciences at WIT announced earlier this year the establishment of Nutrition Research Centre Ireland which has 26 members and a projected research budget of €15m over four years. Bringing together established and respected researchers from several academic disciplines, the new centre of excellence will conduct ground-breaking research with a national and international impact. The centre’s founding researchers have an excellent track record that includes over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers reporting the findings of previous research and the establishment of an international conference dedicated to the role of nutrition in human wellbeing. Collectively, they have secured €15m of competitive research funding to date.
