Preparations are well underway for the conference with the 3-day programme being finalised by the conference committee and management. While some of the speakers will be the same as the 2013 conference, the 2015 programme will have many new and exciting speakers, who will be presenting their research and ideas relating to the role and importance of carotenoids for eye and brain health and function. Also, in 2015 we are open to discussing potential other important roles of carotenoids for human wellbeing, and we welcome any suggestions you may have in this regard.
Indeed, a lot of the topics planned for the 2015 event are the result of the impactful discussions that took place at the 2013 conference. The organising committee are very excited about the 2015 programme and are confident that attending delegates will be provided with the most current and stimulating science.
The organising committee are excited about the 2015 conference and we are currently preparing the program for this event. A couple of early points to note:
Main Conference Speakers: We take great pride in the fact that our conference speakers are all considered to be opinion leaders in the field of carotenoids. The committee is already working with potential conference speakers for 2015. We have asked all experts to ensure that their lecture contains novel data and/or ideas. If you think that you have a research program that is very high standard and can add to what has been presented to date, please feel free to write to the conference committee with an abstract on this work and it will be considered as a main lecture at the event. Conference Website www.macularcarotenoids.org: we are delighted to announce that the new Macular Carotenoids Conference website has been launched in preparation for the 2015 event. We hope you enjoy using this website to view our previous conference and prepare yourself for participating in the 2015 event. Participation at the conference: there are many ways that you can participate at the 2015 conference.
Macular Carotenoid Scientists: The highlight from the last conference was clearly the contribution made by the scientists at the posters and rapid fire presentation sessions. We welcome abstracts from all scientists who have ideas and/or data of interest to this event. We will be giving the poster presentations a lot of attention this year, and we have sourced a bigger room to facilitate assessment and discussions of posters for the 2015 conference.
The format of this section of the conference will be slightly different this year with only a select few poster abstracts being nominated to present from the podium in the famous Howard Theatre. More details on this new feature of the conference will be released on the website in due course. For now, all you need to worry about is getting your abstract ready in time to submit to the conference committee. The 2015 conference will offer awards for best poster presentation and for best oral presentation. The keenly sought after Howard medal will be awarded to the winners of each category along with cash prizes.
Furthermore, the Howard Travel Grant will again be offered for the 2015 event. The Howard Foundation (Conference founder and sponsor) have agreed to offer travel grants to scientists presenting novel research. The Howard Foundation Bursary offers are open to any scientist that submits an early abstract for participation in the scientific poster session (more information on the abstract submission process and programme will be available onwww.macularcarotenoids.org very soon). Please note that early abstract submissions will be accepted for the conference from now! Dates and deadlines for abstract submission and travel grants will be given in due course. Delegates: This conference is designed to support and satisfy all our delegates. Anyone interested in this area of research can participate as a delegate. In other words, you do not have to be a speaker or poster presenter to be involved. In previous years, the conference delegates participated greatly to the discussions generated at the conference. All are welcome.
Sponsors: This event would not be possible if it was not for the continued support of our sponsors. We are currently working with our conference sponsors to agree terms for 2015. Also, we are always looking for new sponsors so if you know any organisation(s) that might be interested in supporting and participating at our event please let us know.
Social events: There will also be exciting and enjoyable social events planned over the 3-day conference. Conference organisers Niamh and Jane will keep you updated in due course.
Please take two minutes from your busy day to add Macular Carotenoids Conference, Cambridge 8th- 10th July 2015, to your calendar. I trust we will see you there!
Warm regards from Ireland, Conference Chair, Professor John Nolan
